The 2017 AgConnectWA Summit is coming up! Join us on Saturday 15 July as we learn about the latest opportunities for young people in agriculture, and network with like-minded individuals. The event will be highlighted by a workshop in succession planning, will include the AgConnectWA AGM, during which an election will be held for the committee, and will conclude with a sundowner at Bathers Beach House.

  • Official opening | Hon. Alannah MacTiernan MLC, Minister for Agriculture and Food
  • Mitchell Jefferys | beyondblue
    Isolation and difficulty accessing services are some of the challenges faced by those living in rural and remote communities, with farmers experiencing high rates of stress and depression. beyondblue works to raise awareness about anxiety and depression, reduce the associated stigma and encourage people to get help. Mitchell Jefferys is a volunteer speaker for beyondblue. His presentation will share his journey of hope, recovery and resilience in the face of depression and anxiety, and encourage discussion and action.
  • Grant Taylor | Careers in Grain
    Careers in Grain endorses the variety of careers available in the WA grains industry, and highlights the importance of these careers and what role they play. Visitors to the site will also understand more about career pathways and progression, and qualifications info.
  • Alysia Kepert | The Department of Education
    Alysia is a national leader in the field of agricultural education and she is committed to supporting the future of rural industries and communities. She is committed to bringing the world of agriculture into mainstream, metropolitan education, and is driven to inspire and develop young people, seeking out partnerships that lead to better outcomes in both rural and metropolitan WA. She was also a 2017 RIRDC Rural Women’s Award finalist.
  • Thomas Loussier | Life Cykel
    Life Cykel believes that for Australian’s health to thrive, we must enable the availability of fresher and unprocessed food. Life Cykel enables Australian’s to simply grow their own fresher gourmet mushrooms in their home, as well as for schools, fundraisers and restaurants across Australia. Used coffee grounds are given a new life when Life Cykel grow gourmet mushrooms from them. 
  • Stephen Meerwald | Harmony Agriculture and Food Company
    Stephen Meerwald has been involved in the meat and livestock industry for 40 years, more than 30 of which has been in the export industry. He has been predominantly based in WA, while also working with operators around the world. Stephen has enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with the people whose livelihoods it is to put food on our plates.
  • Sam Marwood | Cultivate Farms
    Cultivate Farms is a social enterprise that matches hundreds of young farming families with investors to own a farm together. The business rejuvenates and reconnects regional Australia by putting farming back up the top of the career list for anyone.
  • Succession planning workshop
    Succession planning is one of the biggest challenges facing farmers worldwide. To successfully complete this process, there must be honest and open discussion. This workshop will guide attendees through the process. Thanks to the workshop sponsors, RSM and Bailiwick Legal.
  • Tim Hosken | Whipper Snapper Distillery
  • Their whiskey brings together hundreds of years of distilling experience, to bring a taste that had stood the test of time, with great Australian ingredients. Attendees will be be treated to a presentation on the business, and tastings.

How to vote

  • Absentee votes | Absentee voting is now closed. These votes will be collated alongside the votes collected at the AGM.
  • Voting at the AGM | Prior to the commencement of the AGM, attendees will be asked to submit a completed nomination form and enter it in the ballot box. The votes will then be collated, alongside any absentee votes received. At the time of the election all positions on the committee will be declared vacant, then the successful nominees will be announced during the AGM.
