Succession planning and marketing a new focus for farm planning workshops – DAFWA

South-West farmers are encouraged to register their interest in farm planning workshops which focus on succession planning and marketing.

Department of Agriculture and Food project manager Jason Moynihan said the free, one-day workshops were part of the successful Farm Planning Workshop series.

“The new workshops have been designed to deliver a half-day Refresher workshop, for those who have previously completed the Plan, Prepare Prosper workshop, with succession planning or marketing the other key focus of the day,” Mr Moynihan said.

He said updating the Refresher workshop to include succession planning and marketing sessions would further support farm managers to look more closely at their business, and address these important areas.

“For a number of reasons many farming businesses do not have strong succession planning in place, which is an essential strategic activity for farm businesses,” Mr Moynihan said.

“This workshop explores approaches that farm businesses can take to get a planning process underway, and ultimately set actions to make it happen.

“The marketing workshop will look at marketing programs and possible strategies to increase business effectiveness and impact.

“The workshop explores the advantages of focusing marketing activities on client needs, and will examine business opportunities to maximise profitability and success.”

Farm businesses in the South-West who have previously completed the Plan, Prepare and Prosper workshops can register their interest in attending a full-day Refresher workshop which incorporates either a succession planning or marketing session.

Farm businesses who have not previously completed the workshops can register to attend either of the half-day sessions focussing on succession planning or marketing.

These workshops will be rolled out to other areas of the State from early next year.

More information and registration forms about these workshops and other Farm Planning Workshops is available at agric.wa.gov.au/workshops or phone freecall 1800 198 231.
