Seeking agricultural advocates for WA Young Achiever Awards

WAFarmers and Rural Bank are calling for nominations from agricultural advocates who are making a difference in their community, for the 2016/2017 Western Australian Young Achiever Awards.

The second annual event, which will be held in May next year, sees the establishment of an Agriculture Award, which is open to individuals involved in any sector of Western Australian agriculture.

“The Western Australia Young Achiever Awards aim to acknowledge, encourage and, most importantly, promote the positive achievements of all young people up to and including 29 years of age,” said WAFarmers Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Brown.

“To fully represent the achievements of young Western Australians, it was decided that an Agriculture Award would be established to highlight and acknowledge those who play a part in shaping our agricultural community.

“Last year’s Western Australian Young Achiever of the Year, Elizabeth Brennan from Wongan Hills, is a fantastic advocate for rural Australia and is an exceptional role model for young women in agriculture, and we look forward to celebrating other such accomplished and dedicated individuals through the new Agriculture Award.”

Nominations for the eight categories opened recently, with each category winner to receive $2,000 and a trophy. One of the eight category winners will then be selected as the Western Australian Young Achiever of the Year and will win an additional $2,000 and a state trophy.

“We would be delighted to receive nominations from or on behalf of young agricultural advocates that are making your local community a better place to live,” said Rural Bank Regional Manager Tim Batger.
