Landholder info available at Gidgegannup Field Day – DAFWA

Small landholder information, together with education and career activities, will be on display at the Gidgegannup Small Farm Field Day, this Sunday (24 May).

The Department of Agriculture and Food’s Small Landholder Information Service (SLIS) will be providing up to date information to landholders on property management.

Department development officer Landy Jones said for those interested in learning more about land management, livestock, water use and owning a small property, SLIS free factsheets would be available.

“Landholders who want to own livestock can learn how to register and identify them correctly, record their movements on the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) database and other important animal husbandry information,” Ms Jones said.

“For example, pigs are now popular as pets. If you are thinking about buying a pig, come and have a chat with us about requirements and care, including feed, management and registration.”

Once again the department’s education trailer, which features iPads with agricultural applications, will be available to entertain children and provide a greater awareness of agriculture as our source of food.

“Information within the trailer also highlights the many and varied career opportunities in the agricultural sector,” Ms Jones said.

“Children can get a picture of themselves in their new agricultural career.”

DAFWA staff will be on hand to answer any questions visitors have or to help find the information they are looking for.

SLIS provides a free e-newsletter detailing coming events and vital seasonal and land management information, as well as a Facebook page for those wanting to stay in the loop with events and seasonal information.

Free entry to the Gidgegannup Small Farm Field Day, Sunday 24 May, is provided through DAFWA for children aged 16 and under, when accompanied by an adult.
